About our son, Kent

Our son Kent has recently been diagnosed with Aspergers Syndrome. This has come as a shock and somewhat of a relief. We knew Kent had been struggling at school in certain situations and wanted to know how we could best help him. We didn’t know if his struggles came from culture shock or something else. Would you please pray 1) that Kent would gain insight into how to cope with Aspergers, 2) that God would grant us grace and strength for Kent, 3) that his teachers would accept this news with understanding and empathy, 4) and that we would be able to find a specialist and support group here in Rome to help us through this? It was very hard leaving the States two weeks ago without a clear picture of how to move ahead. We are determined God loves Kent completely and will use this in Kent’s life for His glory.
Thank you for praying!

Just read the comments on Wikipedia. Kent DEFINITELY does not have physical cluminess. This is the boy who has been climbing up the door facing like "spiderman" since he was about 18 months old. Right? We are praying for all of you every day, and especially for Kent with school starting. We are praying for his teacher that she will have understanding and will know how to best work with him for him to get the most out of school. We are confident that Asperger's in Kent did not catch the Lord by surprise. He will provide all that Kent needs. Wish he didn't have the problem, but he does so we will just deal with it. Wish you didn't have Graves disease either, but you do and we will deal with that, also. Love all of you so very much,

Mom

Thanks mom. I changed the link to Mayo Clinic. The site gives a more accurate and understandable definition.

What a great picture of Kent, a beautiful son you have there! I will be praying for you as you educate yourselves and seek to support him as he grows with this challenge. I love what your mom said about the Lord will provide all that Kent needs...praying that He leads you clearly through this journey!
Hugs,
Shilo

Wish I had known you were still up when I was writing the first comment. We had tried to call just before that but got your answering machine. Will try to call tomorrow morning. Please tell Kent we are sorry we were not home when he tried to call us. He sounded so sweet when he left his message. He said,"I love you both so,so much." Will talk to you all tomorrow. I am glad you changed the link to Mayo Clinic. It definitely is more understandable and goes into more detail for anyone that really wants to understand. Love you so very much.

I'm so sorry to hear about Kent having this disorder. I haven't been around Kent that much, but he seemed just fine to me. He seemed very outgoing. He was great with my family and the kids. I would never have guessed it. We pray for you ALL daily, but we will especially pray that God with direct you in this particular area. We love you all!

Becky, thank you for your post re: Kent. I will add this to my prayer list. Also, if you do not mind, I would like to share this with one of my former professors and friend at Trinity Baptist College in Jacksonville. Dr. Valerie Riley is very knowledgable in the field of special education. If you should need any help re: Kent's educational needs, please do not hesitate to contact her. She loves to minister to missionaries who have children with special needs. Dr. Riley can be reached via e-mail at vriley@tbc.edu or via telephone at (904) 596-2525. Please keep me posted. You and your family are in my prayers. Blessings, Katie
